Are you passionate about education and supporting 2nd chance opportunities for Indiana adults?  The Excel Center Evansville Southeast believes in transforming lives through the power of education, and as our English Learner Teacher of Record (EL TOR), you’ll play a pivotal role in the success of Excel Center students who are learning English in preparation for pursuing their high school diplomas & certifications. This position works with the instructional team in meeting educational goals and creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students around building English language proficiency.

What You’ll Do:
As the EL TOR, you will focus on planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for English Learner students in accordance with a student’s Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). You will be responsible for assisting Excel Center staff to ensure compliance with federal requirements.


Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Collaboration & Guidance:  Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure instruction and assessment are appropriate for the student at their current level of English proficiency
  • Assessment & Planning:  Administer WIDA screener and the annual ACCESS assessment to develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for English Learners. 
  • Instruction & Support:  Provide English language instruction to adult learners, supporting them in acquiring language proficiency necessary for academic success and personal growth.
  • Team Leadership:  Demonstrate a strong understanding of student learning and effective teaching strategies to develop staff on topics such as EL instructional best practices, data analysis, and differentiation of assessments.
  • Performance & Education Goals: Track and analyze student/school data to set improvement goals. 

What You’ll Bring:
  • Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty and a current Indiana English as a New Language (ENL) Professional Educator license or willingness to obtain one. 
  • Skills:  Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others’ needs.
  • Tech-Savvy:  Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Student Information Systems.
  • Values: A commitment to integrity, service excellence, and collaborative leadership, alongside flexibility to support occasional evenings, weekends, and travel needs.
